Nepal hosting four-nation women’s football tournament in February

    KATHMANDU:  Nepal is hosting a four-nation women’s football tournament in Kathmandu on February 17-26. According to the All Nepal Football Association, women teams of Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Myanmar along with hosts Nepal are participating in the tournament. Of the participating teams, Myanmar (55th) is above Nepal (103rd) in the FIFA ranking, while Kyrgyzstan (128th) and Lebanon (134th) are below Nepal. Nepal defeated Lebanon 2-1 in the 2024 WAFF Women’s Championship. Similarly, Nepal has met Myanmar four times, drawing one and losing three matches. Similarly, Nepal thrashed Kyrgyzstan 8-2 in Najda Cup in 2019.

ANFA Women’s League: Super League matches to begin from Thursday

  KATHMANDU:  The Super League stage of the ANFA Women’s League is beginning on Thursday. Five teams – Nepal APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Waling Municipality and Koshi Province – qualified for the Super League from among the 10 teams that participated in the league stage in September. The teams played each other in a single round-robin format during the league stage. Bagmati Youth Club, Sanakata FC, Chandrapur Municipality, Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province were eliminated from the league stage. However, Bagmati Youth Club got the opportunity to play in the Super League after Koshi Province withdrew. Nepal APF Club dominated the league stage, winning eight matches and drawing one. India-Pakistan matches will be played in neutral venue until 2027: ICC

  india vs pakistan KATHMANDU:  The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday that matches between India and Pakistan, hosted by either country during the 2024-2027 cycle, will be played at neutral venues. This decision applies to several upcoming events, including the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan), the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India), and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka), according to an ICC statement. As a result, the India-Pakistan match in the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will now be held at a neutral venue, though the ICC has yet to announce the location. India’s participation in the Champions Trophy had been uncertain ever since Pakistan was named as the host.   joy tropy KATHMANDU:  The Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup 2024 match between Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Nepal Police Club (NPC) has ended in a draw. In Match No. 1 of the Cup played in Birgunj, Nepal Police Club scored 88 runs for the loss of five wickets while chasing the 172-run target set by TAC. Amit Shrestha top-scored for NPC with a 66-ball 36, while Arjun Saud and Rashid Khan contributed 19 and 10 runs, respectively, to avoid defeat. Other NPC batters failed to reach double digits in the second innings. Aakash Chand and Shahab Alam claimed two wickets each for TAC, while Pawan Karki took one wicket. TAC, which trailed NPC by four runs in the first innings, earlier scored 175 runs in 53 overs. Sompal Kami played a superb knock with an unbeaten 82 from 38 balls. In Monday night's Round of 32 match, Real Madrid defeated Deportivo Alavés 5-0, advancing to the next stage. At Alavés' home ground, Arda Güler scored twice, while Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Luka Modrić each scored one goal. Real Madrid took the lead in the fifth minute with a goal from Valverde. Just eight minutes later, Camavinga doubled the lead for the team. In the 28th minute, Güler extended the lead to 3-0.
